Just came across Jack Rickard's work - he is converting an 09 MINI Clubman to full electric.
Apparently it has a back seat ;) Anyway do check it out, it is pretty cool and way to go Jack!
By the way - Jack also converted a 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster replica to full electric

We're actually doing a series of videos on the conversion of the 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman to electric drive. We should be in the 125-140 mile range.
ReplyDeleteIt will not have a back seat actually. But the battery pack forms a usable shelf and is much lower than the BMW model. And the rear cargo area of the Clubman will be entirely available. So it will be a two seater with much more generous cargo area for groceries, dry cleaning and so forth.
It will feature the full 6 speed Getrag transmission, and the regen will be triggered by the brakes rather than the accelerator. The instrumentation will likely be a little different as well.
If they really make you give yours back, you might consider making your own. It's doable.

Tempting Jack, tempting. I really enjoy driving the MINI E. I do think EVs have a real future and am really pleased to see all the new buzz around them.
